About Erin Roche

Erin RocheA distinguished educator for nearly two decades, Erin Roche serves as Principal of Prescott Magnet Cluster School, one of 482 elementary institutions in the Chicago Public Schools system. Specializing in writing and literature for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, Erin Roche develops and executes educational strategies for students from ethnically diverse, mainly low-income backgrounds. In his four years as Principal, Erin Roche has raised overall test scores on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test by 13 points, implemented rigorous science and math curricula, and enhanced teacher assessments, professional development, and strategic planning initiatives.

Erin Roche earned an Associate in Arts with high honors and graduated cum laude from Knox College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Mathematics. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, he completed a Master of Education in Leadership and Administration. Currently, Erin Roche is working on his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Vanderbilt University, anticipating completion in 2013. Fluent in Spanish, he holds certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in teaching Early Adolescence/English Language Arts as well as additional Illinois State Board of Education certificates in  Secondary Mathematics, Elementary Education, and Administration and Supervision, with approval for English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education.

Prior to accepting his position at Prescott, Erin Roche acted as Principal of Ravenswood Elementary School in Chicago, also a pre-kindergarten to eighth grade facility. In this capacity, he managed a $3.7 million budget and raised both reading and math scores. In other leadership roles, Erin Roche joined Noble Street Charter High School in Chicago as Assistant Principal and Daniel Boone Elementary School as a Resident Principal through New Leaders for New Schools. He held the position of New School Planner for the National Teachers Academy and taught seventh and eighth grade bilingual language arts and math at Telpochcalli Community Arts Elementary School and seventh and eighth grade language arts at Sabin Magnet Dual Language School.

Erin Roche sits on the Board of Trustees of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy and on the local Advisory Board of New Leaders for New Schools. He has published numerous articles in professional periodicals and delivered more than 30 presentations and lectures locally and nationally. Erin Roche supports Literacy Volunteers of America, Boundless Readers, and Right Angle. He also served as a Teacher Trainer with the Peace Corps in Honduras.
